Wembley Stadium opens for greyhound racing

Illustration by G. H. Davis giving an overview of the facilities built for the new sport of greyhound racing at Wembley stadium. Picture shows car parking for up to 1000 vehicles, the Stadium club room and viewing gallery, kennels, trainers accommodation, and various routes making the site easily accessible. Greyhound racing with an electric hare was introduced to Britain in 1926 at Belle Vue, Manchester, and spread rapidly with numerous stadiums built in the next few years. Much of the Wembley greyhound stadium was built over or repurposed buildings from the Empire exhibition. Football cup finals continued to be played there with the railings round the track removed for those occasions
