Most Anzac troops were deployed in the Middle East, and of course at Gallipoli, before being sent to the Western Front in 1916 (the time of this picture). the Australians were no walkover, and many felt bitterly let down by what they considered the badly judged British command and the resultant poorly organised British troops.
