William Heath Robinson with a character created by him

Photograph of William Heath Robinson (1872-1944), from a piece in the Bystander of 1924 which also included some of his illustrative contemporaries, such as H. M. Bateman and A. K. Macdonald. Each artist had drawn a character suggestive of their style and Heath Robinson is seen here wiht a jovial old lady complete with apple basket and umbrella jumping from his hat. Robinson was a regular contributor to the Sketch, the Bystander and other ILN titles throughout his lifetime. His ingenious contraptions were immensely popular and made him a household name
