Winning poster design for LCC evening classes

G. Cranston Bogle, a young Yorkshire artist, receiving his prize for designing a poster to promote evening classes run by London County Council. He won the £50 prize over 800 entries. He had just left Bradford College of Arts and Crafts and begun work as a designer for a London publishing firm. Pictured shaking hands with L. Hertel, the publicity officer for the LCC evening classes, with his winning design in the background. The young man in the picture was George Bogle, father of Nigel Bogle, founder of the advertising agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty. George was also an adman and implemented the Advertising Standards Board of Finance in 1975, allowing the industry to be self-regulatory and not subject to Government law
