Where Worn-Out Horses Went 1909
Mostly old farm, brewery and cab horses were sent on a journey to Amsterdam and Rotterdam. It was illegal to carry any horse which owing to age or disease couldn't be conveyed without cruelty. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals made a thorough investigation. Once disembarked they were taken in procession through the streets to the abattoir where they were made into Bologna sausage and filet d'Anvers
