The Grand State Salt Cellar, Tower of London
The Grand State Salt Cellar of the Tower of London. Also known as the Salt of State or the Exeter Salt, it was presented to Charles II for his Restoration banquet in 1660, and can be used to serve salt and other spices. The Tower of London, also known officially as Her Majesty's Royal Palace and the Fortress of the Tower of London, was built in the 11th Century during the Norman Conquest of England. The Tower was used as a prison from its inception until 1952, but has also served as a royal residence, armoury, treasury, and to this day holds the Crown Jewels
