The Palace, also known as the Grandmaster's Palace or Governor's Palace, was built between the 16th and 18th centuries, and today houses the Office of the President of Malta. At the time, Malta was under British Rule (1800-1964), and so the building housed the Governor of Malta and his British Garrison
