Stoke Mandeville Games
Stoke Mandeville games were first held in 1948 and a milestone in paralympic history. Injured British service people competed in several sport areas and the event eventually became the international Paralympics in 1960. In early August 1953, 6 countries competed with 200 people and 6 sports events. Image shows prize-giving to competitor and probably Miss Patricia Hornsby-Smith as one of the dignitaries
