Feb. 29 Pioneer Anti-smoking Clinic Gets Results. Results are already being achieved at what is probably the first anti-smoking clinic to be opened since the Royal College of Physicians Smoking and Health report was published. Of the thirty three patients who have attending the first four sessions at the clinic at a North London hospital, 10 have stopped smoking others have reduced. At present only patients referred by the hospital staff are being accepted. At the clinic - which is open one nigh a week, Dr Christopher Wood explains the urgent need to give up smoking and drives home his points by means of posters, charts, drawings and specimens of lung cancer and bronchitis. New patients hear from those who have attended before what success they had in giving up cigarettes and what helped them most. The patients own efforts are augmented by tablets of different lobeline preparations. Records are being kept to measure the effectiveness of these tablets. As experience grows it is hoped that similar clinics will be opened elsewhere.
