Apr. 17 Emily Pankhurst is Alive and Living in Peckham : The most famous of the women's suffragettes and perhaps the most Original, Emily Pankhurst has been revived - in the form of a classical statue being produced by a trendy firm Schlpturamics, at their Peckham studio. They have a winner with Miss Pankhurst, the founder of what is today the women's Lib Organization. Apprentice sculptress Darlene Stevens (19) from London is kept busy modelling Miss Pankhurst dressed in period costume for artists Colin Clarke and William Colman. In Between modelling she puts the finishing touches on some of the statues. The Emily Pankhurst statue, unlike the more straight forward Wagner and Beethoven, needed careful research especially the Period costume. The best way to get the necessary results was to have costume is a little uncomfortable to wear - but it makes a change from thigh high boots and mini skirts
