Mar. 03, 1965 - The latest British Hovercraft launched - the 38-passenger Westland SR.N6 puts to sea: The latest British hovercraft was launched today. It was the 38-passenger Westland SR.N6 which was put to sea for the first time from Westland's hovercraft base at Cowes, Isle of Wight. The first order for this new hovercraft has already been placed by Scandinavian Hovercraft Promotion Ltd A/S of Oslo, who will be taking delivery in June this year, and passenger ferry services will be operated by Scanhover in Trondheim Fjord from Trondheim itself. The 9-ton SR.N6 is a direct development from the highly successful Westland SR.N5 - which was the first hovercraft to be produced in quantity. Photo shows the Westland SR.N6 enters the water for the first time at Cowes, Isle of Wight, today
