1968 - After twelve years Englebert's break has come.: And Englebert Humperdinck born twenty-seven years ago as plain Gerry Dorsey in Madras, India (hence his passion of Madras Curry) shot with the metelike speed from No 7 to No 2 on the pop chart. Engelbert returned when he was 12. the family settled in Leicester and made his way into showbiz via a talent-spotting competition at his local cinema. From then on there was no looking back and the sixteen-year old put his mind to becoming an accomplished musician. he took up the guitar and saxophone and made his first public appearance at the Leicester Palais then toured the country in cabaret and appeared on numerous television shows including Oh Boy'. Thank your Lucky starts, Song Parade, and Duke Box Jury'. At the recent Palladium show Englebert Humperdinck almost stopped the shows, and now he's on the up and up - and that's where he'll stay because that's where the fans have put him. On top of the world Englebert Humperdinck who is no two on the charts
