Jazz fans rioting at Beaulieu jazz festival, Hampshire

Jul. 07, 1960 - Teenage Jazz Fans In Riot At Lord Montague's Jazz Festival: Teenage rioters wrecked the first night of Lord Montague of Beaulieu's jazz festival at his stately home in Hampshire last night. They stormed the bandstand, forcing off Asker Bilk's jazz band, and climbed up a TV lighting stand that collapsed under their weight. Three teenagers were taken to hospital. Police from all over the district were called in to control the 9, 000 strong crowd and clear the Palace grounds. Photo shows the scene last night as some of the teenagers climbed up on the floodlight scaffolding while Acker Bilk and his jazz band were playing to the crowds. The scaffolding later collapsed under their weight
