Jul. 07, 1958 - New American Army Helmet Radio Which Is Designed To Use The Sun's Rays To Obtain Power Needed: The U.S. helmet radio currently being developed by the U.S. Army Signal Corps is designed to use the sun's rays to obtain all electric power needed to operate both the transmitter and receiver for as long as a year. Long Narrow clusters of tiny solar cells are placed on either side of the crown of the helmet. These Silicon Wafers power the radio for normal;l daylight operation and charge four small nickel- radium storage batteries to supply peak current in day time and to operate the set at night.
