Dec. 12, 1966 - World's Biggest ship completed; The world's largest tanker Idemitsu Maru 210, 000 tons, built by the Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries, Co. for the Idemitsu OIl Co. in Japan, was recently handed over to the owners in a special ceremony 49.8 meters wide, and 23.2 meters deep will shortly make her maiden voyage to Kuwait. The fully automated ship has only a 32 man crew. She cost 15 million dollars to build. If she carried beer instead of oil in her 244, 800 kiloliter tanks, it would b e enough to fill 1, 290 million bottles of beer. Her deck space is bigger than a football pitch.
