Oct. 10, 1970 - Giant Oil Tanker Pacific Glory Explodes In Flames After Collision With Another Tanker Helicopters joined ships searching for survivors in the oil-covered sea off the Isle of Wight today after the giant oil tanker Pacific Glory exploded in flames following a collision with another tanker, the Allegro'. A series of explosions ripped the Pacific Glory (45, 000-ton) apart, but the Allegro was hardly damaged. Five bodies were recovered from the blazing tanker and eight more seamen are believed to be dead on board.
