Feb. 02, 1956 - America Leads British Fighting Cocks: 33-year-old Major Ray O. Roberts of Savannah, Georgia, a USAF officer serving in Britain under the USAF - RAF exchange scheme, has been put in command of No. 43 Squadron at the Royal Air Force Station, Leuchars, Fife, Scotland. Now equipped with Hawker Hunters, modern British supersonic jets, the squadron, mascot, a bantam cockerel Cocky 11, held by Flying Officer T. W. Murray. Major Roberts joined the USAAF in 1943, has been a test pilot and combat flying instructor and has a record of over 100 sorties in Korea
