Thousands of children in London were not receiving nutritious foods, many poor youngsters were not getting warm dinners during the winter months, bread formed a chief amount of their diets. Many children became sick and weary and frequently died a premature death. Children's Dinners, a Christian charity was set up, found in localities inhabited by poor and needy, one of theses establishments was at Wolburn Buildings, near St. Pancras Church, London. Dinners like roast meat and potatoes with an orange or a piece of cake for dessert were provided all year round for every child who brought a ticket and a penny or they could obtain a book containing forty tickets for one guinea
