17th Century map of the County of Hertfordshire, England
On John Speed's 1610 map of the county of Hertfordshire there is a lot of information. There is a bird's eye view of the ancient Roman town of Verolanium, now St Albans; with a commentary on the Roman occupation. There are illustrations of three battles fought in St Albans, two during the wars of the Roses in 1455 and 1461. Underneath is a section of text on these battles. This map has a lot of decoration. There is a plan of the town of Hertford and coats of arms of two Earls of Hertford
