17th Century map of the County of Sussex, England
The map of Sussex by John Speed 1610 is decorated with strapwork cartouches containing coats of armsof Earls of Sussex. The county is divided into rapes instead of hundreds. There is a town plan of Chichester and a commentary about the Battle of Hastings, which is illustrated by vignettes. The sea contains sea monsters and ships including a large group of ships togetherpresumably representing the Norman conquest
