17th Century map of the County of Warwickshire, England

John Speed's map of the county of Warwickshire 1611 is divided into two by the River Avon. The southern area was mainly pasture land while in the northern part lay the Forest of Arden. Two town plans are shown: Warwick with its important royal castle and Coventry, which at that time, was the chief market town; they both have legends detailing the streets and important buildings of the towns. On the right hand side of the map are armorial devices of the Earls of Warwick and next to these is a depiction and history of the battle of Wolney in 1469. The map is flanked with coats of arms of the Earls of Warwick. At this time Birmingham, marked on the map is a small market town, third in size to Warwick and Coventry
