Countess of Carlisle and Lady Carolyn Howard, WWII

Mother and daughter in the A.T.S - the Countess of Carlisle and her daughter, Lady Carolyn Howard. The Countess joined the ATS in 1938 and acted as liaison officer between ATS groups and Aldershot's Command staff. Lady Carolyn was also an officer in the unit. The inset picture shows the countess with Senior Commandant Corbett, who modelled for an early ATS recruiting poster, and was pictured blowing a bugle (see picture number 10804951)
