Photographic portrait of the Princess Aspasia of Greece, also known as Aspasia Manos (Greek: I'IEIInIEIiIn IaeIoI IcI... 4 September 1896 - 7 August 1972), a Greek commoner who became the widow of the late Prince Alexander of Greece. They met when Aspasia returned to Greece in 1915, after studying in France and Switzerland, and became secretly engaged as the royal family refused to recognize the relationship because she did not belong to one of the European ruling dynasties.Due to the controversy of their marriage, she was styled Madame Manos rather than Queen Aspasia, until recognized as Princess Alexander of Greece and Denmark after the death of her husband, King Alexander of Greece who received the crown after the forced abdication of his father, the late King Constantine, in 1917. King Alexander died in 1920 from sepsis after deep monkey bites to his leg and torso became infected a plebiscite was declared in favor of King Constantine's recall
