Bellanca XSE-2 9186

Bellanca XSE-2 A-9186. The Bellanca SE was a Carrier-based scout, with 2 seats intended as a scout aircraft for the United States Navy (USN). The first aircraft, Bellanca XSE-1 A-9186, crashed before delivery for service trials. The second aircraft (pictured), the XSE-2, was similar to the SE-1, but with a stronger fuselage, larger fin and powered by a Wright R-1510 Whirlwind 14 engine, first flown on 23 December 1934. (The XSE-2 was a new-build aircraft, but confusingly allotted the same Bureau Number as the XSE-1.)
