Curtiss-Cox Model 22 - Texas Wildcat

Curtiss-Cox Model 22 Texas Wildcat at the Morane-Saulnier factory in France. After the almost disastrous first flight of the monoplane Texas wildcat, the team chief Mike Thurston designed biplane wings which were hastily built and fitted at the Morane factory. In the spring of 1920, Texas oil millionaire S. E. J. Cox decided to have two racers built for the James Gordon Bennett race to be held in France the following September. The two aircraft (named Texas wildcat and Cactus Kitten) were hastily designed, built and crated for shipment to France, without the benefit of flight testing
