Douglas XF4D-1 Skyray 124587 (msn 7464), 2nd prototype of the F4D at Edwards Air Force Base, on loan to General electric for engine development. In this photograph 124587 can be seen with a prototype General Electric CF700, aft-fan version of the CJ610-J85 turbojet, on its starboard under-wing pylon. In the background can be seen the RB-66 test-bed for the CJ805 aft-fan turbofan engine. 3 October 1953: Broke world's air speed record.1955: Assigned to Edwards AFB, CA for tests.1956: Bailed to General Electric as a J79 and CJ805 and CF700 test-bed19 October 1960: Struck off charge.Was displayed at the Museum of Armament and Technology at NAF China Lake, CA. current disposition uncertain
