Grumman G-79 XF9F-2 Panther 122477, 3rdt prototype of the F9F and second XF9F-2, powered by a Rolls-Royce Nene turbojet, taxiing for take-off at the Naval Air Test Centre Patuxent River, Maryland. First flown on 26 November 1947, 122477 had its tail torn off in an arrested landing at NAS Patuxent River, MD, on 28 October 1948. (Note: The second F9F was completed as the XF9F-3, powered by an Allison J33-A-8)
