de Havilland Mosquito NF Mk. XV high-altitude fighter. This is an example of the rare NF Mk. XV with the extended wing-span wings, pressurised cockpit, 70 series Merlin engines, nose AI Mk. VIII radar and belly pack for the four machine-guns displaced by the radar. One prototype (MP469), converted from a B Mk. IV, was fitted with moderately extended wings and five more B Mk, IVs were converted with even longer 62ft 6in span wings. Intended to counter the high-flying Junkers Ju 86P and Ju 86R photo-reconnaissance bombers, the five NF Mk. XVs were deployed with No. 85 Squadron RAF from march 1943 but their intended target rarely flew over the UK from 1943 onward
