Short S.16-1 Scion 1 G-ACUW

Short S.16/1 Scion 1 G-ACUW (msn S.775) at Rochester airport. The third production Scion 1, G-ACUW can be seen taxiing in from a scheduled service from Southend to Rochester. After Shorts had carried out flight testing and a demonstration series of scheduled services between Rochester and Southend airports, G-ACUW was sold to Atlantic Coast Air Services Ltd. At Barnstaple in Devon. G-ACUW remained at Barnstaple, operating locally and to Lundy Island until 1938. Impressed into the RAF in May 1940 she spun-in on approach to Ringway on 1 November 1940
