Fleet of Standard cars for King and Queen in India

A fleet of motor cars specially built for King George V and Queen Mary while taking part in the Durbar as Emperor and Empress of India. When the royal couple arrived at Bombay on 2 December 1911 they were received by the governor of the province with two 20 HP 6 Cylinder Standard cars for their own use, with another ten available on request. Arriving at Delhi on 7 December another fleet of Standard cars awaited them, painted in royal blue with red lines and upholstered in blue leather with the royal crown on the side panels. Another fleet of Standard cars was available for visitors from the Indian Government: these were painted cream and upholstered in green leather. After the Durbar came the Nepal Shooting Expedition towards the end of December. For this an entirely separate fleet of cars was built, comprising two 20HP Standard cars with luxurious landaulette bodies, two beautifully fitted double phaetons for the royal visitors attending the shoot, and several 20HP lorries to convey the beaters and equipment. The fleet was manufactured at the Coventry works of the Standard Motor Company and Messrs Friswells were congratulated upon having completed so large an order in time. This picture shows the complete fleet of cars before they were shipped to India
