Leoncavallo visiting Rowton House, London

Ruggero Leoncavallo (1857-1919), the famous Italian opera composer, seen here on the right. He was appearing at the London Hippodrome at a salary of £1, 000 a week. He took a keen interest in provisions for the poor, and paid a visit to Rowton House, one of several hostels providing accommodation for the poor, built by the philanthropist Lord Rowton
