Star and Garter Hotel, Richmond on Thames
The Star and Garter Hotel at Richmond on Thames, Surrey, at the time when it was up for sale. Towards the end of the 19th century the hotel suffered a gradual decline in business. In June 1907 it was put up for auction, but the best offer was £20, 000. A~~later auction in April 1909 produced the same result. Earlier in 1909 a sale of furniture raised about £1, 500. In September 1911 it was heard that the hotel had been bought by a northern company with American connections for £18, 000. The hotel was sold twice more, then became a hospital during the First World War. It was demolished in 1919
