Plaque to Ignatius Sancho, Site of Montagu House, Blackheath
Plaque commemorating Ignatius Sancho at the southern end of Greenwich Park, London. Charles Ignatius Sancho (1729-1780) was a British abolitionist, writer and composer. Born on a slave he was encouraged to educate himself by John, 2nd Duke of Montagu and served as butler to the Duchess at Montagu House, which stood on the site of this plaque prior to demolition in 1815
