Ranulf Flambard's escape from The Tower of London
The escape of Bishop Ranulf Flambard (circa 1060-1128) from The Tower of London (he had been imprisoned by William Rufus successor Henry I of England) on on 3 February 1101 using a long strong rope which was sent to him within a barrel of beer (or a flagon of wine)
