Antoine-Laurent Jussieu (1748-1836), French botanist born in Lyon.Nephew of the botanist Bernard de Jussieu. He studied medicine and graduated in 1770. He was professor of botany at the Jardin des Plantes from 1770-1826 and his classification of many of the the plant families is still used. From The Vegetable World, by Louis Figuier.
