Beginning of May Fourth Movement: Students Rejection

On May 4th, 3000 students from 13 schools in Beijing assembled in front of Tiananmen Square, demanding to abolish Twenty-One, they exclaimed slogans such as: Struggling for national power abroad, punishing thieves at home and protested after the meeting. The May Fourth Movement thus began. Twenty-One, or Twenty One Demands, was a set of demands made by Japan during World War I, which greatly extend control over China. The May Fourth Movement was a Chinese anti-imperialist, cultural, and political movement that grew out of student protests in Beijing on May 4, 1919
