Buddhist Scriptures from Hae-insa, Unified Silla kingdom

Haeinsa is a head temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Seon Buddhism in Gayasan National Park, South Korea. Haeinsa is notable for being the home of the Tripitaka Koreana, the whole of the Buddhist Scriptures carved onto 81, 350 wooden printing blocks, which it has housed since 1398. Haeinsa was constructed in the early 9th century, either as a show of gratitude to Suneung and Ijeong, who cured the king's wife of illness, or following Suneung's enlightenment. It has functioned continuously as an active temple of Korean Seon Buddhism since its founding. From Unified Silla (668 - 935)
