Gaultier, or Galter, was a French engraver, born at Mainz about 1561, and died in Paris in 1641. In Greco-Roman mythology, Arachne is a talented mortal weaver who challenged Athena, goddess of wisdom and crafts, into a weaving contest this hubris resulted in her being transformed into a spider. In Greek mythology, Dodone was said to be one of the Oceanid nymphs (the daughters of the Titans Oceanus and Tethys)
