Electrically powered submarine, designed by Goubet, adopted by the Russian government. In trials at Cherbourg in 1889 it was submerged for 8 hours at a depth of 33 ft, and was in telegraphic communication with the surface. The electricity was produced by wet batteries. Engraving, 1890
