An engraving depicting CANNABIS SATIVA (Hemp). Grown mainly as a crop to produce fibre for cordage sailcloth, and a coarse hard-wearing material for shirts and smocks. Oil, was pressed from the seeds and the residue was fed to stock as cattle cake. The mild NARCOTIC drug cannabis is obtained from this, as well as from Indian hemp (C. indica) 1851
