An engraving depicting a view of Burslem and Longport, Staffordshire with the river Trent and Mersey (Grand Trunk) Canal in the left foreground. On 26th July 1766 Burslem took the day off to celebrate the beginning of work on the canal - Wedgewood cut the first sod. Built by engineer James Brindley (1716-1772). Dated 19th century
