Experiment by Arthur Smee to determine the existence

Smee introduced an ordinary sewing needle into the masseter muscle of a rabbit, and placed a second needle in subcutaneous tissue, and connected the needles to a galvanometer. After a few moments, the animal not liking the treatment, made an attempt to bite the mechanism!1 The galvanometer needle moved* The rabbit was given a piece of wood to bite on, and a strong current was registered. 1850
