Failure of their SIEGE OF SYRACUSE
After the failure of their SIEGE OF SYRACUSE (414-413 BC) 7, 000 men, the remnants of the defeated Athenian army, were crowded into the Syracusian stone quarries with no shelter and minimal food and water. After 10 weeks, those who had not died of wounds or disease, were sold into slavery. Such was the inglorious end of the Athenian campaign in Sicily.
