Germanicus (24 May 15 BC - 10 October AD 19) was a member of the Julio-Claudian dynasty and a prominent general of the early Roman Empire. Depicted on the Ara Pacis Augustae (Altar of Augustan Peace commonly shortened to Ara Pacis) in Rome dedicated to Pax, the Roman goddess of Peace. The monument was commissioned by the Roman Senate on July 4, 13 BC to honour the return of Augustus to Rome after three years in Hispania and Gaul
