Henry Morgan (1635-1688) notorious Welsh pirate and buccaneer who, with tacit support of English government harried, and plundered Spain's Caribbean colonies. In Anglo-Dutch War 1665-7 he did the same to the Dutch. Captured Panama 1671 after peace agreement with Spain. Arrested and sent to London where knighted by Charles II, who sent him abroad again as deputy governor of Jamaica. After engraving published 1741
