The Independence Gate, Seoul

In the northern part of Seoul. Built at the end of Yi dynasty in 1897 by the Independence Association to symbolize the Korean independence from Chinese feudal diplomatic relationship. The stone structure of the Gate is similar to the Roman Triumphal Arch, which may be explained by the fact that the architecture was a Russian architect named Afanasy Ivanovich Seredin-Sabatin that worked for the Yi Dynasty until 1904
