James Thomas Brudenell, seventh Earl of Cardigan (1797-1868) English cavalry officer; major-general 1847. Commanded the light cavalry brigade in Crimean War, which was destroyed in the infamous charge at Balaclava, 1854, which is immortalised in Tennyson's poem The Charge of the Light Brigade'. Engraving
