Juliette Dodu (1848 - 1909) legendary heroine of the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, and the first woman to be awarded the Legion of Honore. Now cast as a symbol of the French resistance, Juliette Dodu was the first woman to receive the Military Medal and the Cross of the Legion of Honore, for intercepting dispatches at the peril of her life in 1870, for being condemned to death by the enemy and saved by the cessation of hostilities
