Painted Jar with Elliptical Body
A pottery excavated at Guangwu area, Henan Province in 1928. This jar came after the time of painted pottery found in Yang Shao and Qin Wangsai, both of Henan province. A large portion of the paint on the body has faded, but the remains suggest it may have been a dragon-like pattern. The unusual elliptical shape is the outcome of the living environment of scarce water. The design of red and white pigments was popular among Shang and Zhou dynasties
