People in Shanghai Angered by Beiyang Warlord

The news that the May Fourth Movement student rally in Beijing was suppressed by the Beiyang warlord government reached Shanghai, arousing the anger of the people in Shanghai. The May Fourth Movement was a Chinese anti-imperialist, cultural, and political movement that grew out of student protests in Beijing on May 4, 1919. On May 7th, more than 20, 000 people from all walks of life in Shanghai hold the National Assembly in the Public Stadium (now Hunan Stadium).
